El Presidente de la República Dominicana, Danilo Medina, participó el pasado 28 de noviembre en la Conferencia sobre Alianzas para el Turismo Sostenible, celebrada en Jamaica, con la presencia del Primer Ministro de Jamaica y de su homólogo de Santa Lucia, además del distinguido Secretario General de la Organización Mundial del Turismo, el Sr. Taleb Rifai, así como delegaciones de los principales países del Caribe y de Latinoamérica.
En su discurso, el Presidente Medina celebró los grandes avances que ha tenido el turismo a nivel mundial este año, en especifico, la región del Caribe. El presidente habló sobre los principales retos y cambios que ha sufrido el turismo en materia de desarrollo sostenible, recordando que este año fue declarado como “Año Internacional del Turismo Sostenible para el Desarrollo por las Naciones Unidas”.
Al terminar su discurso, Danilo Medina reveló un Acuerdo de Cooperación de Turismo Multidestino entre la República Dominicana y Jamaica, con el propósito de potenciar una oferta turística de forma conjunta, abogando de esta forma por una región más unida en materia de turismo.[:en]
President of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina, took part in the Conference on Partnerships for Sustainable Tourism held in Jamaica on November 28, with the presence of the Prime Minister of Jamaica and his counterpart from Saint Lucia, in addition to the distinguished Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization, Mr. Taleb Rifai, as well as delegations from the main Caribbean and Latin America countries.
In his speech, President Medina praised the great advances that tourism has made worldwide this year, specifically, the Caribbean region. The president spoke about the main challenges and changes that tourism has undergone in terms of sustainable development, recalling that the United Nations declared this year International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
At the end of his speech, Danilo Medina revealed a multi-destination tourism cooperation agreement between the Dominican Republic and Jamaica aimed at boosting a tourism offer jointly, thus advocating a more united region in terms of tourism.[:]
