El cónsul honorario de Jamaica en República Dominicana, Enrique de Marchena Kaluche, indicó que la visita oficial este lunes del Primer Ministro de Jamaica, Andrew Holness, resulta trascendental para las relaciones de ambas naciones que han mostrado un liderazgo en el desarrollo del sector turismo y han estrechado sus vínculos comerciales en la última década.

El también Decano del Cuerpo Consular en el país y presidente de la firma DMK Abogados-Central Law manifestó que conoce el interés de otras empresas nacionales de expandirse en el sector turismo en Jamaica.

Andrew Holness llega hoy a Santo Domingo para una visita oficial. De Marchena explicó que el exitoso desarrollo de las inversiones hoteleras españolas en el país, estimuló que estas se expandieran a Jamaica, y que llevaran con ellas a la isla vecina empresas constructoras dominicanas y de otros rubros, que ha ampliado su presencia en ese país caribeño.

Además, dijo, son conocidas las inversiones de empresas e instituciones jamaiquinas en el país, en el sector financiero, turístico y otros.

Indicó que la visita permitirá abordar el tema del Caribe, trascendental desde muchos aspectos, particularmente por su posicionamiento como destino favorito de los norteamericanos para sus vacaciones.

El turismo es la actividad económica más importante de Jamaica. El año pasado recibió 2.1 millones de visitantes con un crecimiento del 2.7% con relación al 2015.

La isla ocupa la tercera posición en esta actividad en el Caribe detrás de República Dominicana y Puerto Rico, tanto por las llegadas como por los ingresos, que en el 2016 sumaron US$2,401 millones.

Jamaica’s Honorary Consul in the Dominican Republic, Enrique de Marchena Kaluche, said that Monday’s official visit by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness is important for the relations of both nations that have shown leadership in developing the tourism sector and have tightened their business ties over the last decade.

Also Dean of the Consular Corps in the country and president of the firm DMK Abogados-Central Law, De Marchena said he is aware of the interest among other domestic companies to expand into the Jamaican tourism sector.

Andrew Holness arrived in Santo Domingo on an official visit. De Marchena explained that the successful development of Spanish hotel investments in the country has encouraged these investors to expand to Jamaica and to take Dominican construction and other types of companies with them, thus increasing their presence in the neighboring island.

He also said the investments of Jamaican companies and institutions in the country, the financial sector, tourism and others are well known.

He said the visit will allow the Caribbean issue to be approached, transcendental in many aspects, particularly as it is ranked as a favorite destination for American holiday makers.

Tourism is the most important economic activity in Jamaica. Last year 2.1 people visited the island, an increase of 2.7% compared to 2015.

The island ranks third in this activity in the Caribbean, behind Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, in terms of arrivals and revenue which totaled US$2,401 million in 2016.
