El sector turismo de la República Dominicana se anotó ayer dos puntos al recibir por un lado el espaldarazo del presidente Danilo Medina a los inversionistas nacionales y extranjeros que desarrollan proyectos, y por el anuncio de la construcción de cinco nuevos hoteles en la ciudad de Santo Domingo.

Durante una visita al Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE) 2017, el evento de comercialización más importante del producto turístico dominicano que se celebra en el centro de convenciones del Barceló Bávaro Beach en Bávaro, y que es organizada por la Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana (Asonahores), el mandatario destacó el crecimiento que registra el sector turístico del país, acercándose cada vez más a las cifras de los 10 millones de turistas.

Manifestó que el pasado año, el turismo creció un 6% y que la meta es ir creciendo cada vez más. “Cada vez venimos acá a inaugurar nuevos hoteles a dar nuevos picazos, lo que indica que las inversiones están llegando al área y que el sector seguirá creciendo”, enfatizó.

Refirió que su presencia en la zona Este es para darle apoyo a los inversionistas nacionales y extranjeros que realizan proyectos turísticos en el país.

El respaldo de Medina se hizo paralelamente con la noticia de que en los próximos dos años, la capital dominicana contará con cinco nuevos hoteles, ubicados en el polígono central.

El anuncio lo hizo el presidente de la Asociación de Hoteles de Santo Domingo (AHSD), Roberto Henríquez, quien explicó que las ofertas estarán ubicadas en el cuadrante comprendido entre las avenidas 27 de Febrero, Abraham Lincoln y Wiston Churchill.

“Todo esto, unido al apoyo del Ministerio de Turismo en la promoción del destino y la mejora de la oferta turística de la Capital, constituyen una apuesta importante para convertir a Santo Domingo en el principal destino de convenciones y cultural del país¨, enfatizó.

Indicó que por el momento no puede dar a conocer las marcas hoteleras, pero que ya hay algunos en construcción.

De su lado, el viceministro de Turismo, Radhamés Martínez Aponte, aseguró que la ciudad de Santo Domingo ha tenido un gran repunte y desarrollo con la llegada de nuevas cadenas hoteleras norteamericanas de alto nivel.

Además, por el desarrollo creciente de la Ciudad Colonial, que tan sólo en el año 2015 fue visitada por más de medio millón de extranjeros.

Hoy en día, dijo, que el proyecto de rescate de la zona antigua está culminando y que se aprobó un nuevo préstamo por US$90 millones para la pavimentación de las vías, recuperación de museos, la dotación de actividades nocturnas entre otros.

He said that he cannot divulge the hotel brands for the moment, but that some are already under construction.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Tourism, Radhamés Martínez Aponte, said that the city of Santo Domingo has seen a great rebound and development with the arrival of new high level American hotel chains.

In addition, due to the growing development of the Colonial City, which in 2015 was visited by more than half a million foreigners.

He said the rescue project of the historical area is coming to an end and a new US$ 90 million loan was approved to pave the streets, restore museums, provide night activities, etc.
